Thanksgiving is just around the corner! By now, you've probably started planning the side dishes and desserts that you will serve this year but what about the star of the meal- the turkey? Brining is the secret to a juicy and flavorful turkey, and is easy and simple to do. Brining your turkey will expand the meats protein molecules and cells allowing it to hold more water while baking, which in turn gives you a juicier more favorable turkey, not to mention it is also great for getting any extra bacteria off of the meat.
-Plastic Tub (large enough for the full turkey to be submerged under the water/solution, but small enough to fit into your refrigerator)
-Gourmet Salt (kosher salt) such as Sherpa Himalayan Salt or French Grey Salt (Fine or Coarse Grain)
-Any other ingredients you wish to add to enhance flavor (herbs, sugar, fruits, vegetables, etc.)
The basic ratio for a turkey brine is 2 cups of salt to 2 gallons of water. You can also add other ingredients as stated above, such as sweeteners or acidic ingredients to balance the saltiness of the brine. To get the best results, brine the turkey anywhere between 12-24 hours. Make sure you cover the tub/turkey and let it sit inside of your refrigerator till you're ready to bake. Once you've drained the turkey, place it in the bake pan, and add any of your specialty ingredients to fulfill your recipe and let it bake. Enjoy!

Press Release - Smoked Sea Salts Now Part of San Francisco Salt Company's Distinctive Chef Salt Collection
Saturday, 27 October 2012
Smoked Sea Salts Now Part of San Francisco Salt Company’s Distinctive Chef Salt CollectionThis month, the San Francisco Salt Company expanded their line of gourmet salts to include Cherrywood and Alderwood Smoked Sea Salts. Authentic and completely natural, their smoked salts are priced competitively and are a must have for any food business or gourmet kitchen chef.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 27, 2012 - San Francisco Salt Company (SFSC) have unveiled the latest additions to their selection of chef salts - Smoked Sea Salts. Their release this October comes just in time for the Thanksgiving season, a time when delicious, well-planned meals are on just about everyone’s mind.
“We’re excited to add smoked sea salts to our chef salt division,” says Lee Williamson, the founder of the San Francisco Salt Company. “The smokiness of the salt adds a tremendous rich flavor to just about any kind of cuisine. Smoked sea salt is much more versatile than one would think,” adds Williamson. “It’s great on all kinds of meat, vegetables and starches. It even adds a unique flavor to desserts like ice cream, caramels, chocolate and more. The possibilities are limitless.”
Smoked sea salt can be quite expensive elsewhere, but San Francisco Salt Company sell their bulk smoked sea salts at a lower cost than many of their wholesale competitors. The smoked sea salt offered by the San Francisco Salt Company is premium sea salt that is smoked over a real wood-burning fire. SFSC uses a traditional, but streamlined and very efficient process to reduce costs and pass the savings onto the customer. “A lot of companies just add a cheap liquid smoke flavor to their food products to keep costs down, but quality and taste is too important for us to go that route,” explains Williamson.
Why smoked sea salts? “Well, our customers asked for it. Over the last 12 months we have been continually reaching out to our customers via social media to find out what they really want, rather than assuming we know what they want. This grass roots feedback has allowed us to become a much better brand, more organized, and better at keeping our customers happy,” says Williamson. As well as their new line of smoked sea salts this month, SFSC have also announced they will be extending free shipping through the end of the year.
In addition to their new Smoked Cherrywood Sea Salt and Smoked Alderwood Sea Salt, San Francisco Salt Company’s selection of chef salts also includes Himalayan Salt, French Grey Salt, Fleur de Sel, Hawaiian Sea Salts and many more gourmet salts to suite any palate.

With so many bath salts to choose from, the question you may have is: Which salt is best for me? The answer depends on what you are looking for in a bath salt. To help you decide, we've highlighted some of our best selling soaks based on the benefits they can provide.
If you are looking to take a nice, relaxing bath to ease the stresses of the long day or to help you sleep well while softening your skin, our Sleep Lavender Bath Salts are a great choice.
For a detoxifying bath, our Minera® Dead Sea Salt is a great choice. We even have a Detox Soak made with pure Pacific Sea Salt, lavender and rosemary essential oils, kelp powder and green tea powder.
For soothing muscle aches and pains, a popular choice is our Muscle Soak. Made with Epsom salt and eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils, this is the perfect bath salt for those with with physical jobs, athletes, or anyone who needs to give their muscles a pick me up.
When looking for relief from skin conditions like Psoriasis or Eczema we recommend our Minera® Dead Sea Salts. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from customers who've had great results using the Dead Sea Salt for help with their skin conditions. The natural salt on its own can be very effective. You will want to use a larger amount of salt than usual to aide skin conditions- add one to two pounds of this salt to your bath and soak for at least 20 minutes. For general skincare benefits, you may also want to try our Pure Skincare Bath Salts as well. This is a blend of Dead Sea Salt and Pacific Sea Salt scented with organic lavender essential oil and also contains essential oils, vitamin e and aloe vera.
For a therapeutic bath, you will want to add two large handfuls to your bath (exception- If using Dead Sea Salt for psoriasis and eczema you will want to add one to two pounds), allowing 20 minutes of soaking time. Remember to keep the temperature of your bath water warm but not too hot, the benefits will be greater this way. Ultimately, you are trying to mimic the water of the Sea! Keep in mind, it’s a good idea to speak to your doctor before beginning any therapy routines.

As we all know, time takes its toll on us and as we get older we seem to search more and more for the real fountain of youth. We begin to see changes in ourselves, from fine lines and wrinkles to a few more gray hairs. Whatever the side-effects, humans are not fond of the aging process, and we often resort to treatments that are ridiculous at best, painful and dangerous at worst. We nip and tuck, pull and tighten, stretch and massage our way to eternal youth. Only, it doesn’t work that way – no matter what we do, we are still aging.
You could get botox treatments, a face lift, liposuction. You could spend hundreds of dollars on empty promises: expensive lotions and “miracle” creams that don’t really work.
Or, you could take a bath once a week – Could this possibly be the fountain of youth we have been searching for?
That’s right – bathing is a healthy, enjoyable way to restore your body’s youth and vitality. Certain types of bath salts contain powerful minerals that replenish moisture in our skin, aid in our defense against elements such as sun and pollution, tighten and detoxify our pores. In addition, bathing is a wonderful way to relax and unwind, making us look and feel younger.
How does it work? First, you need high quality bath salts that naturally contain essential minerals and nutrients for the body such as magnesium, bromide, calcium, iodine, potassium, all of which are found in Dead Sea Salt. Magnesium aids in cell metabolism; bromide soothes the skin and relaxes nerves; calcium is known to strengthen bones and teeth while cleansing the pores of the skin; iodine aids in the body’s metabolic exchanges; potassium reduces water retention. These minerals all work to condition our skin, making it more resilient and able to defend against the elements.
The wrinkles and fine lines that we see as we get older are the result of a combination of factors. Sun exposure, stress, heredity, climate conditions and diet all contribute to our skin’s aging. Sea salts have been shown to decrease the depth of wrinkling by 40%. The minerals in sea salts
Let’s not forget the biggest accelerator of the aging process: stress. Stress causes us to stay awake at night and not get enough sleep; it causes us to furrow our brows and frown (not helpful in making us look or feel youthful); it has more serious side effects such as heart disease. Taking a bath a few times a week will not only give you some much-needed quiet time – it will make you feel calmer and more relaxed during your hectic days. Start taking regular baths with some luxurious bath salts. Add your favorite scent, light some candles, and get ready for a younger, more vibrant body and mind. Maybe the fountain of youth is just a bath away!
